Family-owned ACD Skip Hire has completed the final programme of works being delivered as part of its two-year expansion plan after securing £370,000 in funding from NatWest.

The Bridgend-based business has used the funds to triple the size of its operations with the addition of new premises, as well as an upgrade of facilities at its original site to improve operational efficiencies.

The final programme of works, which was completed in July 2018, utilised £50,000 of funding from NatWest to install a new roofing system, covering the 4000sqft open yard at Brynmenyn Industrial Estate. The new roof will protect general and recyclable waste from the elements and is set to save the firm thousands of pounds each month.

ACD’s two-year expansion programme also included the purchase of an additional 10,000sqft unit, which now houses the firm’s vehicle workshop. The increased workshop space will allow the company to invest in more vehicles to support growing demand for its services.

The family-run skip hire firm was established in the early 1990s by brothers Viv and David Hughes. Almost 30 years on, the company has an annual turnover of £2m and employs 23 local workers.

Viv Hughes, director and shareholder at ACD Skip Hire, said:

“The installation of the new roofing system will have a significant impact on our business operations. As the yard was uncovered, wet weather and rain water would add weight to the waste materials we store making loads heavier and more expensive to send to landfill. We will now see incremental savings in both time and costs as a result of this final investment. NatWest has supported our expansion plans since 2016 and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the bank as our business develops and grows.”

Maria Williams, senior relationship manager at NatWest, said: “We have been working with ACD Skip Hire for more than two years now. The company has already seen impressive growth in this time and I expect this to continue over the next two years and beyond.”
