Bridges Centre receives £100k funding to support activities for young people

Bridges Centre

Bridges Centre are celebrating the announcement of £99,997 grant made possible thanks to National Lottery players. They will be helping children and young people with additional needs spend quality time with their families through creative and social activities. Another Monmouthshire based community project receiving funding is Usk Town Council with £3,887 to host an event to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Over the next two years, Bridges Centre will spend their £99,997 grant to provide Quest Busters – a series of activities for children and young people with additional needs and their families. This will include activities during holidays, after school and on weekends. These activities will build on the social, active, and creative interests of the children and young people. Activities including surfing, hiking, bushcraft, canoeing and cookery help build social skills, aid personal development and allow the families to spend quality time together.

Siobhan Pring, Parent, told us that: “Quest Busters programme has made such a difference to our lives. Being able to do things together as a family, feeling supported and able to join other families who understand the difficulties we face day to day really has helped us. Quest Busters is brilliant, always fun and the coordinators are just so patient and friendly. We feel lucky to be part of the group and we’ve loved every activity we’ve been able to be a part of – seriously EVERYTHING!!”

Another community project receiving funding is Usk Town Council, they received £3,887 to host an event to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This event will engage with a range of diverse groups from the community such as the Women’s Institute, Sports Clubs, and schools in the area. Alongside the event they will stage a small exhibition of Royal memorabilia collected from Usk residence. This will be the UTC’s first post pandemic event and is a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together after a tough 2 years. An official Jubilee Tree will be planted to mark the occasion for generations to come.

John Rose, Wales Director of The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “We are delighted to support good causes such as Bridges centre. Projects like these support communities to thrive. Last year the National Lottery funded over 7,500 projects supporting health and well-being”.

These projects are just two of 104 projects awarded across Wales in the past month totalling £4,056,838 of funding raised by National Lottery players.
