Organisers of the Caerphilly 10K have confirmed a new race route will be introduced for the 2026 event, delivering a 14.29% reduction in elevation following feedback from runners seeking a flatter, more consistent course.
Feedback from runners showed a clear appetite for a flatter, less hilly course, prompting the redesign of the route for 2026.
The Start and Finish will remain on Crescent Road, placing the event firmly in Caerphilly town centre and ensuring the race-day atmosphere remains a central part of the Caerphilly 10K experience.
From the start on Crescent Road, runners will head through Pontygwindy Road towards the Cedar Tree Roundabout, before continuing along the A468 behind Lansbury Park. The route then moves onto Van Road, before returning through the town centre and back onto Crescent Road for the finish.
The redesigned course retains the character of Caerphilly while improving flow and accessibility, creating a route that supports runners of all abilities, from those completing their first 10K to experienced athletes targeting personal and club records.
A revised route is also planned for the Caerphilly 2K event, aligning with the updated 10K layout and enhancing the overall race-day experience for young runners and families. Further details will be shared via our social media channels.

Listening to runner feedback has been central to the decision to introduce this new route. By reducing elevation and improving consistency, we are creating a course that is more inclusive and more supportive of personal goals, whether that’s completing a first 10K or chasing a new personal best.”
The course update also aligns with the council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy, which focuses on reducing barriers to participation, encouraging lifelong activity and creating welcoming opportunities for people to be active within their local communities.
The Caerphilly 10K has already seen strong performances in recent years, with the men’s course record set by Dewi Griffiths, who finished in 29 minutes and 12 seconds in 2024. The women’s course record is held by Olivia Tsim, with a time of 34 minutes and 58 seconds. These performances remain outstanding benchmarks, and the flatter 2026 route has been designed to create strong conditions for runners aiming to challenge their own personal bests.
