    Caerphilly educators successful at Young Enterprise Wales Final

    Three educators in Caerphilly County Borough Council have been recognised in this year’s Young Enterprise Wales Awards.

    Coleg Gwent, Blackwood Comprehensive School and St Martins Comprehensive School all received awards at the 2022 Young Enterprise Wales Awards.

    Young Enterprise are a national charity who work directly with young people, teachers, parents, businesses and influencers to help young people gain the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in the real world by equipping them with the work skills, knowledge and confidence they need.

    During the award ceremony Coleg Gwent’s Independent Living Skills course achieved an award for Team Programme Award for Students with Additional Learning Needs. Blackwood Comprehensive School was named Runner Up as Company of the Year; however, the award was scooped up by St Martin’s Comprehensive School, who were named Company of the Year 2022.

    Pupils Freya Roberts and Emily Clarke, who are student directors in the winning company called “Covered!” said:  “It was a great opportunity to be involved with Young Enterprise. We are extremely proud of ourselves for following through with our idea, and in the end, becoming successful. We enjoyed working as a team and everyone’s skills benefited our company.”

    Councillor Carol Andrews, Cabinet Member for Education & Communities said: “A huge well done to Coleg Gwent, Blackwood Comprehensive School and St Martins Comprehensive School for their success at this year’s Young Enterprise Awards.

    “Caerphilly County Borough Council have bold ambitions to provide every learner with the best life chances and we are committed to doing this through a combination of class learning and real-world skills.”
