On Saturday (10 March), Capital Network Solutions (CNS) donned their waterproofs and wellies to take part in Keep Wales Tidy #SpringCleanCymru

Barry-based CNS sponsored the local beach clean up event in the Swanbridge area of the Vale of Glamorgan.

As 2018 is Year of the Sea, CNS have been helping to raise awareness of marine litter, how it enters our oceans and the devastating impact it’s having.

This particular area is well used by the general public and collects a considerable amount of washed up waste on the coast line. Recent storms have increased the amount of waste here, and currently no litter-picking groups patrol this beach, so sadly this stretch of coastline requires attention. This was a great opportunity to make a real difference for the benefit of both wildlife and the general public’s enjoyment of this beautiful area.

Volunteers picked litter around the stretch of beach primarily around Swanbridge Bay. Litter is then separated from rigid plastics into blue bags for recycling into new products by TerraCycle, as part of the marine plastic programme.

18 bags of rubbish were collected in total, along with a dumped fridge freezer that had long since been abandoned on the beach.

The event gave CNS staff, friends and family a chance to enjoy a day out cleaning the beach and the area together.

“It was such an enjoyable experience spending time together out of the office environment whilst doing such a valuable thing as cleaning our local environment. The satisfaction and good feeling that it created amongst our group of volunteers was immense and I would thoroughly recommend that other companies get involved in similar events in the future, ” said Sarah Edwards, Managing Director, Capital Network Solutions Limited.
