Cardiff-based youth football team score £1,000 donation

A local developer has donated a grand to a youth football team in Cardiff as part of its Community Champions scheme.

Persimmon Homes East Wales, the company behind the St Edeyrns development in the north-east of the city, presented Pentwyn Dynamos Under 12s with its cheque at its training site. It has used the funds to purchase new kits for the players, which Persimmon has sponsored.

Pentwyn Dynamos’ U12s has been run by volunteers Natalie Souli – the team manager – and coaches Dean James and Justin Jones since 2019. They have a large squad of players from the Pentwyn area and encourage any child who has an interest in football to join.

They often rely on parents’ support over the years which, alone, can be quite challenging, so are grateful that Persimmon’s sponsorship will mean the team can play in brand new kits and get training equipment.

The five-star housebuilder has two and three-bed homes available from £244,995 at St Edeyrns Village which is nearby to where the team are based. The multi-phase site recently saw the opening of a primary school, with commercial units already occupied, with more homes to come.

The funding came from the business’ Community Champions scheme which sees the East Wales region donate £24,000 each year to good causes and commendable organisations in the areas in which it develops. Recent recipients in the area include St Edeyrns Village Litter Pickers.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes East Wales’ sales director, Victoria Williams, said:

“We’re always delighted to support sports teams for young people like Pentwyn Dynamos as part of our Community Champions scheme.

“From promoting the positive benefits of sports on physical and mental well-being to discipline and teamwork, there is every chance we are also lending a helping hand to the next Gareth Bale.

“We are already providing for young people in the area through the building of hundreds of homes as well as a new school at St Edeyrns, and we hope that ripple continues to benefit youngsters for generations to come.”

Natalie Souli, Team Manager of Pentwyn Dynamos, added:

“We are really grateful for Persimmon’s help for Pentwyn Dynamos and have already used the donation to pay for new kits for our players.

“Running a youth team like the Dynamos is not easy with it being volunteer led, so anything that can ease the pressure on our dedicated team like the injection of funds is most welcome.

“The kids are really looking forward to playing in their new kits and it is always a joy to watch them play the sport they love.”
