Cardiff Blogger Announced as ‘Working Dad of the Year’

Nigel Higgins from Cardiff  has five children aged 22, 20, 18 and 6 year old twins. He was nominated for this award by his wife, Emily.

Nigel and his family will continue the celebrations this Fathers Day, after it was announced that he had won the Pitman Training 2018 ‘Working Dad of the Year’ category as part of Pitman’s SuperAchievers awards, after hundreds of nominations from across the globe were submitted to the business superbrand.

By trade, Nigel is a painter and decorator, something he has done for over 20 years now. Alongside this, Nigel is also a blogger on his site DIY Daddy (http://www.diydaddyblog.com/) Which he has been writing for almost 4 years now and is where he documents the trials and tribulations of family life.

His blogging career started off as a hobby; somewhere he could write about his life, feelings as well as the ups and downs of a busy family life. He states on his blog that he wanted a place to share his experience of being a Dad so hopefully, his children will read the blog some day and recall happy, fond memories. He also brings his practical experience to the fore and offers DIY help and advice.

Nigel’s wife Emily says; “Nigel is kind, thoughtful, very motivated and will always go the extra mile to help anybody. He is always looking to improve himself, take advice and is always willing to learn. He is very motivated to be the best he can be.”

The UK’s leading independent training provider, Pitman Training launched the SuperAchievers Awards to show anything is possible and to help reward people committed to driving their careers forward in a bid to inspire more of the British workforce to strive for more.

Winners of Pitman’s SuperAchievers are determined by a combined judges vote and the public vote.  This year’s judging panel included Han-Son Lee, founder of DaddiLife – a parenting website for dads which focuses on a range of areas to help, celebrate and inspire the modern day father. After reading Abigail’s application, Han-Son Lee says; “Nigel really is an awesome father. He’s clearly incredibly dedicated to his job, family and wider impact he can have through DIY Daddy. He is a more than deserving winner.”

The judging panel also included and Claire Young, entrepreneur, media specialist and government advisor who appeared on series four of BBC’s The Apprentice alongside Lord Alan Sugar, she says; “I really admire having 5 children, working full time and stepping out of his comfort zone to start a blog -which has now become really successful! I think he is a brilliant role model whom many people can relate to. Well done!”

Claire Lister, Managing Director at Pitman Training Group, said: “We are honoured to be able to highlight such incredible stories, across a really varied set of professions and showcase those who are striving to achieve. Each year, I look at the entries submitted, and it inspires me to see what people are achieving through hard work and ambition.”
