    Cardiff city centre road closures for Pride Cymru Parade this weekend

    Thousands of people flocking to the annual Pride Cymru Parade are getting helpful travel advice from Cardiff Bus. 

    The operator is alerting customers and attendees to road closures and route diversions ahead of the hugely successful event set to take place in Cardiff on the weekend. 

    The annual Pride Parade will take place on Saturday 17th June where thousands of people are expected to fill the capital’s streets and celebrate LGBTQ+ communities across Wales. 

    Summary of road closures:

    • Castle Street, outside Cardiff Castle will be closed all day. 
    • Cardiff Bridge will be closed between 10.00 and 13.30. 
    • Some of the city centre roads will be closed, from 11:00 to 13:30, while the parade takes place including Westgate Street, Wood Street (between Westgate Street and Lower St Mary Street), Lower St Mary Street, Mill Lane and Greyfriars Road (westbound). 

    During the closures, buses will use alternative city centre bus stops. 

    Services 1, 2, 5, 6 will start and end at Callaghan Square outside Eversheds between 11:00 – 13:30. Buses will run between Callaghan Square and Grangetown via Penarth Road.  Bus stops will not be served on: Canal Street and St Mary Street 

    Service 7 will start and end at Callaghan Square outside Eversheds between 11:00 – 13:30. Buses will run between Callaghan Square and Grangetown via Penarth Road. Bus stops will not be served on: Canal Street, St Mary Street, Tudor Street and Clare Road. 

    Services 8 and 9 will divert via Penarth Road and Bute Street Bridge in both directions between 11:00 – 13:30. For buses to Heath Hospital go to Bute Terrace or Churchill Way.  For buses to Cardiff Bay/Sports Village go to Bute Terrace (Radisson Blu) Bus stops will not be served on: St Mary Street, Tudor Street, Clare Road.  

    Service 11 will start and end on Churchill Way between 11:00 – 13:30. The bus stop on Hayes Bridge Road will not be served by this service.

    Services 13, 15, 17, 18 will start and end at Fitzhamon Embankment between 10:00 and 13:30. Bus stops will not be served on: Wood Street, Westgate Street, Cardiff Bridge, St David’s Hospital.

    Services 21, 23, 24, 27 will start and end at Greyfriars Road GL (eastbound stop) all day. Bus stops will not be served on: Westgate Street, Kingsway.

    Service 25 will start on Fitzhamon Embankment between 10:00 and 13:30. Bus stops on Wood Street and Cardiff Bridge will not be served during this time.

    Services 28, 28A and 30 will start and end at Greyfriars Road GL between 11:00 and 13:30.  Bus stops on Hayes Bridge Road, Customhouse Street and Churchill Way will not be served.

    Service 32 will start and end on Fitzhamon Embankment between 10:00 and 13:30 and will not serve bus stops on Wood Street, Westgate Street, Cardiff Bridge and St David’s Hospital.

    Service 35 will start and end at Greyfriars Road GL all day.  Bus stops will not be served on Westgate Street, Kingsway, St Mary Street, Bute Terrace, Churchill Way or Dumfries Place.

    Services 44, 45 and 49, 50 will start and end at Westgate Street, Royal Hotel from the first bus until 11:00 and then again from 13:30 until the end of service.  Between 11:00 and 13:30 these services will start and end from Churchill Way. Bus stops will not be served on: Dumfries Place, Greyfriars Road, Kingsway and Castle Street all day, and Westgate Street and Bute Terrace between 11:00 – 13:30.

    Services 52, 57 and 58 will start and end on Churchill Way between 11:00 and 13:30.  The bus stop on Customhouse Street will not be served during this time.

    Services 61, 62, 63, 64 and 66 will start and end on Fitzhamon Embankment between 11:00 and 13:30.  During this time, bus stops on Wood Street, Westgate Street, Cardiff Bridge and St David’s Hospital will not be served.

    Service 96 will start and end at Tudor Street between 11:00 and 13:30. Bus stops on Wood Street, Cardiff Bridge and St David’s Hospital will not be served during this time.

    Service 99 (Skycar) will start and end at Callaghan Square (outside Eversheds) between 11:00 and 13:30 and will not serve the bus stop on St Mary Street during this time.

    Service X45 will start and end at Callaghan Square outside Eversheds between 11:00 and 13:30. Bus stops will not be served on: St Mary Street, Tudor Street, Clare Road.

    Gareth Stevens, Commercial Director at Cardiff Bus urges customers to check all information on the route alterations and closures ahead of travelling on the Cardiff bus website or via its social media pages during the weekend.

    Mr Stevens said: “The Pride Cymru Parade is set to be a fantastic celebration for everyone across Cardiff and we hope everyone has a brilliant time.  

    “Cardiff Bus is a proud supporter of Pride Cymru and celebrates the advances in equality over the last 50 years, and we can’t wait to see our Pride bus in action as it takes part in the parade.

    “To ensure everyone can attend and enjoy the event we will continue running our services throughout the city, and service stops near, and surrounding, the event.  

    “Our website and social media pages will contain vital travel information and updates throughout the weekend to ensure all those attending are kept informed. 

    “If you’re travelling with family or a group of friends to the event, you can take advantage of our family and group-day-to-go tickets and save money on your bus travel. 

    “We’d like to wish everyone a great weekend.”
