Work is well underway in Cardiff city centre as preparations ramp up for this year’s much-loved Winter Wonderland. Crews have moved in to transform City Hall Lawn and Cardiff Castle ready for the event’s return next month.
The festive attraction will open to the public on Thursday 13 November 2025, running right through the Christmas season until Sunday 4 January 2026.
City Hall Lawn taking shape
The familiar skyline of Cardiff’s winter festivities is starting to reappear, with the Big Wheel now being put together on City Hall Lawn. Decorations are being installed across the site, and the towering Christmas tree has already been built, with teams seen testing its lights ahead of opening night.
The alpine-themed Sur la Piste bar has also been constructed and is expected to be a popular spot once again for visitors to warm up with a festive drink.
What to expect this year
Cardiff Winter Wonderland will once again be split between City Hall Lawn and Cardiff Castle, offering something for everyone. The castle grounds will host the covered ice rink and Ice Walk, with a separate novice rink for beginners and dedicated accessible sessions every Thursday.
Over at City Hall Lawn, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the city from the Big Wheel, alongside a range of funfair rides, family entertainment, and a variety of food and drink stalls serving everything from festive treats to mulled wine and hot chocolate.
Entry to Cardiff Winter Wonderland is free, with individual attractions, rides, and food charged separately.
The finishing touches will continue over the coming weeks as Cardiff gears up for one of the biggest events in its festive calendar.
