Carmarthenshire County Council’s Country Cars team is seeking more volunteer organisers and drivers in and around Ammanford and rural areas of the county to help residents who would otherwise be unable to make essential local journeys.
Country Cars is a community-based car sharing scheme. Volunteers help people with individual or occasional travel needs reach healthcare, shopping, work and other locations within Carmarthenshire.
Volunteers can give time that suits them, from as little as a couple of hours to a couple of days a week. Roles include driving, coordinating services, or other support.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Infrastructure services, Cllr Edward Thomas, said: “Country Cars plays a vital role in helping residents across Carmarthenshire remain connected to their communities and access essential services. Whether it’s attending healthcare appointments, getting to the shops or travelling to work, the support provided by our volunteers can make a real difference to people’s lives.
“We’re always keen to welcome new volunteer drivers and organisers, particularly in Ammanford and our rural communities. Even a small amount of time can have a significant impact and volunteering is a rewarding way to support those who may otherwise struggle to make important journeys.”
