Community groups in Carmarthenshire secured more than £6 million through the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF) Sustainable Communities Programme, Carmarthenshire County Council has said.
Over the past three years the programme supported 96 projects across the county. According to the council, funding helped local groups and organisations improve facilities, strengthen community engagement and address local challenges, including access to services, sports and leisure facilities, poverty, the circular economy, heritage and culture, and environmental and green projects.
Named examples include the Dolen Teifi community transport initiative, Pethau Pawb’s Library of Things, improvements at Ferryside Lifeboat Station, and upgrades to children’s play areas and local sports facilities.
The council said the Sustainable Communities Programme has now come to an end. Its Bureau continues to offer information on funding opportunities, training, networking and support for voluntary and community organisations.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism Cllr Hazel Evans said: “The Shared Prosperity Fund has enabled community groups across Carmarthenshire to deliver projects that have made a real difference to local people and places.
“The success of these projects reflects the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and community organisations. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and the lasting impact this investment has had across the county.”
