Clean-tech firm Sure Chill and residents of the Cardiff Eagle Lab which opened in 2018, has developed a unique cooling technology approved by the World Health Organization that ensures a refrigerator remains completely cool during any power outage.

Its globally patented technology is revolutionising refrigeration and cooling because where traditional refrigerators need constant power, Sure Chill’s doesn’t. ASure Chill medical refrigerator can last without power for over 12 days in temperatures of up to 43°C.

The technology was first developed to protect life-saving, temperature-sensitive vaccines in emerging countries and vaccine refrigerators with its technology estimated to have helped save millions of lives.

Now, its technology is being applied across even more industries from home refrigeration, to retail and logistics.

The company is already selling into 47 countries across the world, turning over £2.2m and hasattracted support from the world-leading Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Shell Foundation. Its customers include UNICEF, Ministries of Health, MSF and other key partners.

Last month, Sure Chill’s CEO, Nigel Saunders joined the Prime Minister Theresa May on a 4-day tour of South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya meeting with leading businesses, policymakers and entrepreneurs. Sure Chill was one of only two Welsh companies invited by the Prime Minister on the mission representing the very best of British business in technology.

Commenting on the award win, Nigel Saunders, CEO of Sure Chill said:

“The award is wonderful recognition of how far Sure Chill has come in so little time. Our technology transforms lives and is tackling the world’s most complex cooling challenges. This year has been a great year for the company. We are on an exciting growth journey and entering new markets taking our technology to all corners of the globe.”

Richard Heggie, Head of High Growth & Entrepreneurs Proposition at Barclayssaid:

“The Barclays High-Growth & Entrepreneur Awards, now in its third year, has proved to be a valuable and influential business competition for entrepreneurs and high growth businesses across the country.  Entrepreneurs are fundamental to the UK’s economic competitive advantage, disproportionately driving job growth, attracting investment, and creating the innovative products and services that shape our todays as well as tomorrows.”
