Did you know that more than 11 per cent of all adults in Wales regularly access online casinos? Not only has the iGaming sector enjoyed massive popularity in recent times, but younger generations are now beginning to appreciate what this exciting community has to offer.

One of the ways in which casinos attract players involves the first-time bonuses that they will provide. Assuming that you are new to this concept, what do these offers normally entail? Perhaps most importantly, how can you make the most out of such opportunities, and avoid common mistakes that might otherwise occur? Let’s take a closer look.

    First-Time Casino Bonuses Explained

These types of promotions are often referred to as matched-deposit bonuses, and for good reason. The vast majority will provide you with a certain percentage of your deposit in the form of additional funds. Furthermore, most are broken down into a series of stages. Here is a common example of a fictional bonus package:

    • First deposit: 100 per cent for up to 1,000 euros.
    • Second deposit: 50 per cent for up to 1,000 euros.
    • Third deposit: 25 per cent for up to 1,000 euros.

In this case, new players have the chance to walk away with a total of 1,750 euros in additional funds. These can then be used when playing games such as slots, poker, roulette, bingo, and virtual dice. Note that you can also read more here to appreciate how these bonuses are structured.

While the concept seems straightforward at first glance, there are some variables that must be taken into account that you can make the most out of what is in store. We will now move on to discuss the finer points.

    Wagering Requirements

This is arguably the most important factor to address, as it can ultimately determine access to specific offers. Many welcome bonuses are attached to wagering requirements. These are normally expressed as multipliers such as 35X, 40X, or 45X. In other words, you will have to play through a specific number of times before a reward is granted. In the case of 40X requirements, you will need to bet at least 40 times. As a general rule of thumb, most players tend to favour lower wagering thresholds. Note that these can also be referred to as “rollover requirements” from time to time.

    Bonus Codes

There may be times when a bonus can only be activated with an associated code. This is normally a one-time code that will be sent to your email address, or transmitted to a smartphone. While bonus codes can often represent lucrative opportunities, always make it a point to read the fine print (especially in terms of the wagering requirements mentioned in the previous section). You might otherwise deplete your bankroll before experiencing the potential benefits.

How Long Will the Offer Remain Valid?

Another common mistake involves failing to take advantage of the offer within a specific period of time. The issue here is that these thresholds are not always made clear by the casino in question. Even if you have nearly completed the requirements, these efforts will fall on deaf ears if the program itself expires. When in doubt, take some time to refer to the terms and conditions. If these are unclear, make it a point to contact a customer service representative.

    Applicable Games

In most cases, casino welcome bonuses will only be applicable to certain types of games (slots are a prime example). Other bonuses may be geared to specific titles. Simply stated, they will not be valid if you choose to access other portions of the casino. Be sure to confirm which games qualify so that you can focus your efforts in the right direction from the beginning.

    What About VPNs?

A final point that is often overlooked involves the use of a virtual private network. VPNs offer several discrete advantages, such as:

    • Superior levels of anonymity.
    • They can be used if you regularly access a public wireless network.
    • VPNs will circumvent regional restrictions (if the casino is blocked in certain portions of the world).

However, not all brands permit the use of a VPN. Others clearly state that accessing their site via a VPN will violate their bonus terms and conditions. Clarify this point before registering.

    Rolling Out the Red Carpet

We can now understand why welcome bonuses have become such an attractive feature of modern online casinos. Still, always remember that appreciating how these offers work is the best way to leverage the potentially generous opportunities. With a bit of preparation, there is no doubt that you will enjoy a memorable (and rewarding) experience.

    Gambling statement

Underage gambling is an offence. You must be over 18 years old to gamble.

Any form of gambling should always be fun, playing in a way that is right for you. It’s good to set limits, take time out or set up reminders.

Please gamble responsibly and in moderation.
