Communities for Work plus project have been able to help a Ceredigion resident get back into work after being made redundant left him out of work.
Jahsyl Abberton from Aberystwyth was made redundant from his full-time post but managed to find temporary and part-time work. Whilst working as a waiter and a Door supervisor, Jahsyl came across the Communities for Work plus project in the local newspaper and decided to visit the council office to find out more information.
Council staff set up an appointment for Jahsyl the following week with Communities for Work plus staff, who explained the project and what would be available to him.
Jahsyl was able to get his Construction Skills Certification Scheme Card (CSCS Card) while studying his National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH).He said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to Ceredigion County Council for the help and support given to me through the Communities for Work scheme. I was able to obtain my CSCS card and gain work because of this scheme. The scheme provides opportunities for people like myself looking to get into work. It has helped me with the Construction Certificate Scheme Card (CSCS) and the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).”
He continued, “A special thank you to Glesni Hemming, Delor Evans (Mentor), Catrin Davies (Employers Liaison Officer) and Delyth Smart (Support Officer) for their assistance in helping with the courses and obtaining my construction cards.
With the help from Delor and Catrin I am now employed on a temporary contract with Afan Electrical Limited as a general labour. The team have been really fantastic, I would like to express my gratitude and thanks for all they have done.”
Councillor Catrin Miles, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member for Schools, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Support and Intervention, said: “This is a fantastic example of how Communities for Work plus are able to help individuals within the county.
