A number of pre-booked slots for the community will be available at Aberystwyth University’s swimming pool as maintenance work continues at Plascrug Leisure Centre.

Ceredigion Council has released the following statement:

“As a Local Authority, we recognise the current difficulties with respect to the Council pool closures across the county. We also recognise the need for residents in Ceredigion to be able to go swimming. Ceredigion County Council has been in discussions with Aberystwyth University with regards to the possibility of utilising their swimming pool for community use whilst Plascrug Leisure Centre is closed. The Local Authority is extremely grateful to the University for their support and collaboration with these arrangements.

“We are pleased to announce that from 28 June 2021 onwards, if the number of coronavirus cases in Ceredigion remain low, a limited number of community swimming slots will be available at the University’s Sport Centre. These will go hand in hand with the slots allocated to the University’s regular users. Each slot will be 1 hour sessions, which include 45 minutes of pool time.”

Pre-booking will be essential as walk-ins will not be permitted. Full details on the slots available and how to book will be posted on the Ceredigion Actif’s website shortly.

    Plascrug Leisure Centre

The decommissioning work at Plascrug Leisure Centre is continuing, but the amount of work to be done to the building is far more than initially anticipated. Every part of the building was used when it was transformed into a COVID-19 Field Hospital by Hywel Dda University Health Board.Ceredigion County Council is committed to reopening the Leisure Centre as soon as possible, but we must ensure that we are able to provide high quality and safe facilities for all our service users to enjoy.

The patience and understanding of all users is appreciated as we work towards reopening.

Slots can also be booked at Aberaeron Leisure Centre, Lampeter Leisure Centre and Penglais School Sports Hall (for community club use only). Essential maintenance works are continuing at Lampeter Swimming Pool and Cardigan Leisure Centre remains as a mass COVID-19 vaccination centre.

Opening hours, timetables, booking information and details on the COVID secure measures will be available on Ceredigion Actif’s website.
