Key workers in Bridgend county borough are being reminded that if they or a member of their household is experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19, they can request a test at a community testing centre via a dedicated phone number.

A wide group of occupations are classed as key workers, including:

    • NHS and social care staff
    • Council workers
    • Teachers
    • Prison staff
    • Police, coastguard and fire and rescue service personnel
    • Charity and volunteer workers
    • Financial services
    • Food and other key goods supply, including retail staff
    • Funeral industry
    • Justice and probation
    • Private waste management
    • Public service broadcasting
    • Religious staff
    • Armed Forces, MoD, border security and National Crime Agency personnel
    • Utility company staff, including Welsh Water Dwr Cymru
    • Post Office workers
    • Telecommunications and data firm employees

The main symptoms of coronavirus are a new, continuous cough, high temperature or loss of or change to normal sense of smell or taste. If you experience any of these symptoms, you must self-isolate and book a test.

If you are a key worker, or a household member of a key worker, and are experiencing any of the symptoms of Covid-19, you can access a test via your manager or organisation who can provide a dedicated phone number for booking a test. Alternatively, you can visit the Gov.uk testing webpage.

Other residents who have coronavirus symptoms can book a test at the mobile facilities in Bridgend county borough.

A drive-through facility will open at the site of the former Revlon/Cosi factory off Oakwood Drive in Maesteg (CF34 8TS) on Friday, 22 January. It will be open from 9am to 4pm.

A walk-through testing facility is also in place at the Bowls Hall car park off Bridgend Life Centre (Angel Street, Bridgend CF31 4AH). The facility is available 8am-8pm, seven days a week.

Booking is essential at these sites. To book, visit the Welsh Government testing webpage or call 119. If you have hearing or speech difficulties: call 18001119.
