St. Modwen, the developer behind the £1 billion Glan Llyn development in South Wales, has completed construction of a state-of-the-art primary school for Newport City Council.

The new, two-form entry Glan Llyn Primary school will accommodate 420 local primary pupils and provide nursery facilities for younger children. The school will also provide a further two classes to accommodate up to 20 pupils with additional learning needs.
Designed to provide a first-class education environment for pupils, the school boasts outdoor learning areas, hard and soft play areas, a spacious hall and a third-generation (3G) sports pitch which is available for use by the local community. The school also boasts impressive green credentials, with solar panels, underfloor heating and a sustainable drainage system that helps boost local biodiversity.

The school forms part of St. Modwen’s regeneration of the former Llanwern Steelworks site into a new business and residential community of 4,000 new homes and 6,000 new jobs for South Wales. To date, over 600 new homes have been delivered at Glan Llyn, along with 18-acres of open parkland with play areas, lakes and sports pitches. St. Modwen has also delivered over 200,000 sq ft of high-quality industrial and logistics space at neighbouring St. Modwen Park Newport (formerly Celtic Business Park), attracting major employers Amazon and Spanish rail manufacturer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF).

Councillor Debbie Wilcox, Leader of Newport City Council, said: “Glan Llyn is a major part of the City of Newport’s regeneration and growth. It is very important that the area has excellent facilities for all residents and this new school sits at the heart of this new community.”
Councillor Gail Giles, the council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills at Newport City Council, added: “This new, state-of-the-art, eco friendly primary school will be a significant addition to our primary school provision in Newport. I wish the headteacher, staff, governors and, particularly, all the young people every success in this new venture”.
