Corwen Day Nursery to expand following land acquisition

Corwen Day Nursery has recently expanded with a new two storey extension and additional outdoor play space which was made possible thanks to land acquired from Lord Newborough and the Rhug Estate.

Carmen Roberts Davenport, Owner of Corwen Day Nursery and after school club, said, “I approached Lord Newborough with my plans for expansion. Originally, I asked for a parcel of land from Rhug Estate for extra car parking once the two storey extension was complete but the parking area at the nursery was made bigger by removing a large timber shed and a storage area. My team and the children asked if we could use the land for additional outdoor space for the children to benefit from and a grassed surface would complement our existing outdoor area perfectly.”

Hanna Davies, Deputy Manager at the nursery added, “It’s fantastic to have our own outdoor lawned area for us to use daily and the children love running on it bare footed during the summer months. The children are safe because it has been enclosed with a wooden fence.”

Lord Newborough visited the extension earlier this week and was delighted to see what a difference the extension had made. He said, “Rhug Estate is very much a part of the local community and I was delighted that we could help Carmen fulfil her extension plans.  We employ 120 people at Rhug Estate, with over 90% of the staff living within 10 miles of the estate. It is reassuring to have Carmen and the Day Nursery so close as parents working with me are reassured their children are close by and looked after well when they are at Corwen Day Nursery.”

Carmen said, “The piece of land has enriched the lives of the children in so many ways. We are passionate about spending as much time as we can outdoors and we use the field for fun days, sporting activities as well as for doing the ‘Daily Mile’ which the nursery has signed up for. I am so grateful to Lord Newborough for assisting me to improve the outdoor environment and to provide more experiences for the children in our care.”

The children from Corwen Day Nursery also visit Rhug Estate for an educational tour of the farm regularly as Carmen believes it is important for the young generation to understand where their food comes from.

During his time at Corwen Day Nursery Lord Newborough was presented with a Thank you card that the children had made.
