The future of Corwen Football Club has been secured for the next 20 years thanks to Rhug Estate providing a long-term commitment of land for a sports field.
Corwen Community Football Organisation has a thriving junior section with over 110 boys and girls playing in a variety of teams with an age range of four to 16 years. The teams are currently playing and training at Dee Park under a provisional agreement, but the club is now pleased to announce that it has agreed a 20-year lease with Rhug Estate.
Michael McNamara from Corwen Community Football Organisation said, “With this agreement the future of all the football teams in Corwen is now secure. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Lord Newborough for facilitating this and the generous terms he has offered. We would also like to thank Llewellyn-Jones Solicitors who offered their services on a pro bono basis.”
Lord Newborough said, “Rhug Estate is very much a part of the local community and I was delighted that we could help Corwen community football organisation. This agreement will undoubtedly give the club some stability for their future plans.”
The six-acre field is located at the end of the lane past the Corwen War Memorial Park. It has two grass pitches which have been maintained by the football club under previous shorter-term agreements. Flood water has led to the club adapting their built facilities so that they can become more resilient to any future floods. The site is fast becoming a great facility for the local community and travelling players and spectators alike.
Estate Manager for Rhug, Emma Story, said, “This agreement has taken a long time to get in place and I’m very happy to see it finally happen. I’m a great believer in the benefits of sport, not just participation but all the other opportunities that come with sports clubs including coaching, refereeing, volunteering and spectating. I look forward to seeing the community’s plans come to fruition.”
