Swansea Council says highways teams are now working to find out what caused a sinkhole to appear on Brynymor Road at the junction with Westbury Street.
Specialists have started investigations on site. The council says the road will be reinstated once they understand the reason for the ground failure and are confident repairs can be carried out safely.
While this work continues, Brynymor Road is closed to traffic between Westbury Street and Eaton Crescent. Westbury Street is still open, although drivers cannot access Brynymor Road from it.
The rest of Brynymor Road remains open as usual between St Helen’s Road and King Edward Road.
