Adam Roe, 40, is taking on a 100k endurance event this summer to raise funds for a pregnancy charity after almost losing his wife during an ectopic pregnancy operation.
Adam will be completing the Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge 2026 on 18-19 July, fundraising for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust after his wife Vicky experienced a rare, life-threatening caesarean-scar ectopic pregnancy in 2023.
The challenge is a 100k continuous, day‑and‑night trek across rugged coastline and steep climbs in South Wales. Over 1,500 participants are signed up to the event that has already amassed £200,000 across all participant fundraisers.
While Vicky underwent emergency surgery, Adam spent the night pacing hospital corridors with their daughter, unsure what the next hour would bring. The relief when the surgeon finally told them Vicky had survived is something he will never forget.
In the days that followed, The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust became a lifeline for the couple, offering clarity, information and emotional support at a time when the family felt overwhelmed and shaken.
He said: “I’m doing this for Vicky, for Baby Roe, and for every family who has been through the trauma of ectopic pregnancy. If this challenge and fundraiser help even one person feel less alone, then every mile will be worth it.”
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust Chief Executive, Munira Oza, said: “People like Adam are the heartbeat of everything we do at The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. Taking on the Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge 2026 is no small feat, and the fact that he is doing it in support of those affected by ectopic pregnancy means the world to us and those who turn to The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust every year when they need us most.
“Ectopic pregnancy affects around 1 in 80 pregnancies in the UK, and yet so many people face it feeling utterly alone and unprepared. The funds raised allow us to keep our support, information, and resources free and accessible to everyone who needs them – at what is often the most frightening and heartbreaking moment of their lives.
“We are in awe of Adam’s commitment and we will be cheering him on every step of the way.”

This will be Adam’s second 100km ultra, having previously completed the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge. He is currently covering around 45km per week as part of his training, with additional elevation work to prepare for the notoriously tough Gower terrain.
Participants receive full support throughout the Challenge, including hot food, regular rest stops with refreshments and an experienced welfare team across the course. Optional camping and accommodation options help make the event accessible and enjoyable for all.
