Work is starting to help improve drainage conditions in Swansea’s much-loved Singleton Park.

Contractors are moving on site to begin work on the project which will help improve conditions for park users and those attending large-scale music events which have become a summer-time feature in the park over recent years.

The work will take up to six weeks and is being paid for through a UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF) grant. The work will involve installing new drainage pipes in the park as well as improving existing drainage channels.

Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration, Events and Tourism, said the drainage improvements follow on from consultation with residents following last summer’s events season.

He said: “We’ve already done drainage improvements at the Lacrosse Field at the bottom of the park and this latest work will go a step further by helping to address issues at the top and middle of the park where events take place.

“We’re working with the contractors to minimise disruption to local residents and regular users of the park and we’re keeping local people and community groups informed.”
