St Mellons Church in Wales Primary School will officially join All Saints’ Church in Wales Primary School and St David’s Church in Wales Primary School as part of the existing The Saints Federation from June 2026.

The move to formalise the federation is set to provide long‑term leadership stability, sharing expertise and enhancing educational opportunities for pupils across all three schools, whilst supporting the school’s ongoing improvement journey and help address recommendations made by Estyn.

Following consultation with staff, governors, parents and the wider community, the proposal received broad support, with stakeholders recognising the benefits of collaboration, stronger leadership and improved outcomes for learners.

The new move builds on the success of the current collaborative arrangements, which have already had a positive impact on leadership, teaching and learning at St Mellons Church in Wales Primary School. It will enable the three schools to work together more closely, pooling expertise, developing a richer and more consistent curriculum and creating wider opportunities for pupils and staff, while strengthening education provision in east Cardiff.

Importantly, each school will retain its own identity, name, uniform and place within its local community, while benefiting from shared leadership, resources and professional development opportunities.

Cardiff Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Sarah Merry said: “This decision is about securing the best possible future for children and young people at St Mellons Church in Wales Primary School. By joining The Saints Federation, the school will benefit from strong, experienced leadership and a proven culture of collaboration, while continuing to serve its community and maintain its own unique identity.

“The federation will strengthen teaching and learning, support staff development and help drive sustained improvement across all three schools, ensuring pupils receive a high‑quality education both now and in the years ahead.”

The federation will come into effect from June 2026, in line with statutory requirements.
