Children and families looking to join in all the action of the Cardiff Half Marathon can now help kick start race weekend.

Registration is now open for the junior events which will include something for all ages and abilities.

Cardiff Half Junior will take place on Saturday 4 October and will mark the start of the Cardiff Half Marathon weekend with the main race set for the Sunday.

The event is part of R4W Next Gen, a re-imagined series of family events that aim to inspire a future generation or healthy, active adults.

There will be a no-pressure, family-focussed 2.4K Fun Run where fancy dress is encouraged as well as a 50m Toddler Dash for those taking their first steps into physical activity.

For budding young athletes and junior club runners looking for an accessible and competitive race there will also be the one-mile Future Challengers races to get involved in.

Families are also invited to enjoy the buzz of the event village which will be full of fun activities and entertainment including a special NSPCC story time session taking place at the NSPCC tent.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive at Run 4 Wales, said: “The Cardiff Half Marathon weekend is so much more than the 13.1-mile race. It’s a fun filled two-day event providing something for all ages and abilities and we’d like to encourage everyone to get involved and get moving.

“At Run 4 Wales we’re passionate about providing opportunities for children, young people and their families to become active. 2024 saw the highest ever number of Cardiff Half Junior participants and we’re hoping this year will be even bigger. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Welsh capital in October.”

Those who take part in the Fun Run and Future Challengers race will receive chip timing and a special finishers medal.
