With planning for winter festivities across the city now in full swing, Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland has unveiled plans for their 2021 event- and it’s not like anything you’ve seen before.

Split across two locations in the heart of the city centre, visitors will now be able to experience Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland at both City Hall Lawns and Cardiff Castle. This year, the Castle grounds will become home to a mighty undercover ice rink and a magical 150m ice walk, allowing for a skating experience against the backdrop of the spectacular Norman Keep. In addition to its popular funfair attractions, City Hall Lawns will boast two spectacular bars for 2021 – with a new-and-improved Sur La Piste Bar with rooftop terrace and even a brand-new Ice Bar! Visitors will be able to chill (quite literally) in -10-degree temperatures and take their best selfies in Cardiff’s newest and coolest Instagram hotspot.

The famous Giant Wheel will also return to City Hall Lawns, which offers some of the best views of Cardiff. Visitors can also enjoy delicious food and drink, with options to tuck into a Yorkshire pudding wrap, toast marshmallows on an open fire or indulge in a dreamy hot chocolate.

This new layout will give visitors the chance to enjoy even more of Winter Wonderland than before and compliments other winter activities being held across Cardiff’s city centre at the same time – including the traditional Cardiff Christmas Market and Cardiff’s Festive Quarter.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Bradbury said:

“Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland is a stand-out event for the capital and a firm favourite in the city’s seasonal festivities.

“The news that 2021 will see Cardiff’s biggest Winter Wonderland yet, at two of our most iconic landmarks, is fantastic and means we can welcome visitors over plenty of space for a safe experience at this first-class attraction.”

Organiser of Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland, Norman Sayers said:

“We are delighted to bring Winter Wonderland back to Cardiff for another year and to offer visitors a whole new experience with the use of both City Hall Lawns and the grounds at Cardiff Castle. After we’ve all got through another difficult year, we’re excited to help build some festive spirit across the city and give people a reason to smile and enjoy themselves in the lead up to Christmas.

“This year’s Winter Wonderland will be bigger and better than ever before – by spreading the event over two prestigious locations we are ensuring that visitors will have plenty of space to enjoy all of the attractions and atmosphere that makes Winter Wonderland so popular.

“I’m confident that this year’s new additions will really ‘wow’ crowds and we can’t wait to open over the coming weeks.”

Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland will be open from 16th November 2021 and tickets for the ice rink are on sale now: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/cardiff-winter-wonderland-2021

The ice rink will be open for accessible sessions every Wednesday during the 1:30pm slot.

Traditionally, spaces for skating sessions sell out fast, especially on weekends. It is recommended that tickets are pre-booked for the ice rink to avoid any disappointment. General admission into both City Hall Lawns and the Castle grounds public square is completely free for visitors to explore over the winter period.
