AFTER nine years and £2,000,000, Fairwood Trust has awarded its final grant scheme of £450,000 to three organisations to complete its grant making legacy.
The independent grant making charity was established in 2008, born out of the funds generated by the successful social enterprise, Training Services Wales. The Trust has focused on supporting education and training and the broad benefits to those most at need distributing more than £2,000,000 over the years to such causes.
Fairwood Trust finally came to a close at the end of 2017, marked by a celebratory legacy dinner being held at Miskin Manor in November, with trustee Barry Hitchock as MC and Aled Sion Davies as the guest speaker.
The final Fairwood Trust Legacy Grant Scheme was awarded to The Amelia Trust, Tenovus Cancer Care and Bridgend College. The Trust received forty-four applications and short-listed eight, from which the winners were selected.
The Amelia Trust charity was awarded a grant of £130,000, which will help to improve facilities at the farm. Charity Director, Karen Turnbull said: “The capital funding from Fairwood Trust will mean that we can invest in building a new farm shop as well as improving other facilities at Amelia Trust Farm. The funding will also enable us to buy much needed equipment for our new music studio.”
“Our charity provides therapeutic support to disadvantaged and vulnerable people in a Care Farm setting, as well as being a countryside sanctuary for all to enjoy. We’d like to thank the Fairwood Trust for the grant and their support for our charity.”
Leading Welsh Cancer charity, Tenovus Cancer Care, was awarded £75,000 which will help fund new, large mobile screening unit vehicles with training rooms, to teach people about cancer and provide more people in the area with access to cancer screening facilities.
Bridgend College was awarded a grant of £225,000 which will be used to help with a series of regeneration projects within the college grounds. The money will help build and redevelop a ‘Success Centre’ where students can meet to work and present. The building will also have a meet and greet area with modern, shared open- plan working spaces.

The winning organisations stood out as perfect candidates in the rigorous selection process and far exceeded the established criteria for the grants.
