The first ever Bridgend Forces Festival has been held at Newbridge Fields to bring together and offer support to Service children from all over the county borough.

The festival was organised by the council in partnership with Forces Fitness, YourNorth and SSCE Cymru. The primary school event was held on Wednesday 24 May while secondary school pupils attended on Thursday 25 May. A total of 94 pupils from 17 schools attended across the two days.

There were lots of engaging activities on offer which allowed pupils to work on key skills such as team-work, communication and problem solving.

The activities included team-building tasks, a tug-of-war, water challenges, a giant inflatable course and mindfulness sessions.

It was great to work with key partners such as Forces Fitness, YourNorth and SSCE Cymru to organise such a valuable event which will inevitably benefit many young people in the county borough.

This event provided a fantastic opportunity for Service children to share their experiences with other children who may find themselves in similar situations.

It was also really pleasing to see so many young people making new friends and enjoying the activities which were designed to be both fun and educational.

Councillor Jon-Paul Blundell, Cabinet Member for Education
