Flood Assistance Centre Neath Port Talbot Council has set up an assistance centre for people in Briton Ferry affected by flooding at: ‘The Lodge’ Community Hall, Ynysmaerdy Road, Briton Ferry, SA11 2NS

Council staff will be on hand from 10am – 3pm Friday 19th December 2025 and Monday 22nd December 2025.

Staff from Social Services, Housing, Welfare Rights, and Local Area Co-ordination will be there to provide information, assistance and signposting.

    Waste collections

NPT Council will be providing special collections for flood damaged items removed from properties. However, it is vital to follow your insurer’s advice before items are presented for collection, as this could affect your claim. Companies may want photographic evidence, or to arrange a visit to the property.

These collections will take place on Saturday (20th December) and Sunday (21st December) starting at 7:00am through to 3:30pm. Please only present items that have been damaged by flooding.

Please present items at the front of the property, once you have checked with your insurer.

Your regular wheeled bin / black bag and recycling collections will take place on your usual day this week.  Please present your wheeled bins / black bag and recycling in your usual place for collection.

     Advice for affected householders

    • Contact your insurer and follow their advice.
    • If you rent your property, contact your landlord or agent and ask what their insurance covers for flooding.
    • If you do not have insurance, our staff can provide information on grants or charities that may be able to help you.

Do not turn on electricity, gas or water without getting professional advice. If your electricity supply has not been switched off at the mains, get a qualified person to do this.

Make sure your gas and central heating has been checked by an engineer before turning it on.
