Food and drink businesses will be among those who can apply to have a place on the Aberystwyth Promenade this summer.

The council’s Cabinet approved proposals to tender out parts of the promenade and beach for a trial period during the summer of 2019.

[aoa id=”1″]After negotiating changes to the exclusivity of use of a section of the Promenade, the council has received a number of new enquiries for longer term use of the prom for seating areas and food and drink sales. There have also been enquiries for selling seafood; a food van and ice-cream sales on the beach.[/aoa]

The new proposal will be trialled in Summer 2019 and will inform a longer term strategy for promoting new uses within the county’s towns.

Businesses will be able to submit tenders to use sections of the Promenade in Aberystwyth for food, drink and seating. The council would like to see quality submissions that promote the Welsh Language and local produce, and that the old Welsh historic cultural tradition of the Promenade is retained as far as possible.

Councillor Rhodri Evans is the Cabinet member responsible for Economy and Regeneration. He said, “I want to thank council officers who quickly brought the proposals together to make sure we can offer fantastic opportunities to make the prom an even better place to visit this summer. We are committed to supporting the Ceredigion economy, and this decision helps us to do that.”

Any businesses who are interested in tendering for a place this summer should contact the council’s Project Management and Development Officer, Alan Haird on 01545 572 453.
