Funding approved for cultural services in Neath Port Talbot

Neath Port Talbot Councillors have approved funding of more than £625,000 for cultural services next year (2018/19).

Despite having to make cuts of £8.9m to achieve a balanced budget, the Council remains committed to investing in cultural services and facilities.

Cllr. Clement-Williams, Cabinet Member for Finance said:

“Every year, the Council has to achieve a balanced budget which means we can’t spend more money than we have.

“But we want everyone in Neath Port Talbot to be able to enjoy good quality cultural services, which is why we are continuing to invest in these facilities.

“We will also look to develop new service models and explore opportunities to generate more income to support the operation of our cultural services, to make them less dependent on Council subsidy.

“For example, we will develop our theatre programmes to attract a range of acts and performances that customers want to see and we will support ‘Friends’ Groups to secure local community involvement in their future development.”

The money will be spent on running and maintaining cultural facilities including Pontardawe Arts Centre, the Princess Royal Theatre, the Gwyn Hall and Cefn Coed Colliery Museum.
