Funding available to tackle food poverty in Neath Port Talbot

Applications from community groups and organisations whose aim is to support people struggling with food poverty can now be submitted online.

The Food Poverty Grant has been opened up for organisations who can apply for funding up to £3,500.

Eligible spend could include things such as purchasing additional food as a result of increased demand, volunteer training costs, start-up costs for developing lunch clubs, community cafes and advice services around food poverty support.

Councillor Simon Knoyle, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance and Social Justice, said: “I would urge any organisation that wishes to set up a support service for people facing food poverty or are already doing so but need additional funding, to find out more or apply online.

“The cost of living crisis is leaving people at risk of not being able to buy a sufficient amount of food for their families, and by working closely with local support groups and partners within our communities, we hope to be able to help alleviate the burden on people who are currently struggling.”

There are no deadlines for submitting applications but the fund will be awarded on a first come first served basis. All allocated funding must be spent by the 31st March 2023.

For further details on the funding criteria and to complete an application form online, go to www.npt.gov.uk/foodpovertygrant. If you would like to discuss an application, email [email protected] or telephone 07890 035912 / 01639 686057.

This funding has been awarded to all councils in Wales by the Welsh Government in order to support an increased number of people facing food poverty. It aims to strengthen community food initiatives and focuses on activities that could help address the root causes of food poverty.
