Welsh rugby legend Gareth Thomas joined luxury property developer Waterstone Homes and special guests at its new Coed Darcy site for the official launch of ‘Abode’ – the company’s new subsidiary designed to bring competitively-priced, quality homes to the housing market.

The Bridgend-born sports star, who has racked up more than 100 caps for Wales during his professional rugby career, called in to wish the team at Abode a Merry Christmas ahead of the launch of the firm’s very first development in Coed Darcy, Neath Port Talbot.

Earlier this year, Waterstone Homes, which is also based in Bridgend, announced plans that it would be expanding into the middle market, introducing a new range of smaller, more affordable properties through a new subsidiary company ‘Abode by Waterstone’.

Abode will specialise in building smaller scale homes while retaining the same high quality and stylish design that Waterstone Homes is renowned for with its larger executive properties. The company has unveiled plans to complete more than 100 of the new-style homes across south Wales by the end of 2020.

To mark the launch of Abode’s first scheme – a development of 93 homes in Coed Darcy – Waterstone Homes staff welcomed local residents as well as customers old and new to an exclusive unveiling event at the development’s sales suite.

As well as getting the chance to meet and speak with Gareth, guests also had the opportunity to mingle and have a sneak peek at the plans for the new style of homes being built at the development, while enjoying mulled wine, mince pies and festive cheer.

Andrea Gardener, Sales and Marketing Director at Waterstone Homes said: “We are thrilled to welcome Gareth Thomas to the launch of Abode by Waterstone Homes at Coed Darcy. As a fellow Bridgend local, it was great to see him support a local business, taking the time out to meet with the team, children and parents alike.

“This has been a great Christmas event and we are very excited to bring our new range of homes to the market next year!”

Gareth Thomas added: “Being a passionate Welshman, I love supporting local companies so it’s great to see Waterstone Homes, who are based in my hometown, doing so well. Waterstone has some stunning luxury homes but I think it’s great that they are now also offering more affordable homes too as these will help more people onto the housing ladder. Thanks to the team for inviting me along to the launch.”
