In celebration of 850 years since the first Eisteddfod a procession will follow a giant puppet of founder of Lord Rhys around west Wales.

Arglwydd Rhys, built by Small World Byd Bach, will arrive in St Davids on 19th June, before travelling to communities across Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion as part of Milestone Las: Lord Rhys’ Journey.

    • Friday 19 June – St Davids & Oriel y Parc, 5.45pm
    • Saturday 20 June – Cenarth 12pm & Castell Newydd Emlyn, 4.30pm
    • Sunday 21 June – Talgarreg, 12pm & Llangrannog, 6pm
    • Thursday 25 June – Goodwick, 6pm
    • Friday 26 June – Maenclochog, 6pm

Some temporary road closures will be in place as Lord Rhys passes through.

A final celebration day will be held in Cardigan, home of the first Eisteddfod, with events planned for the town, castle and river.

Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman and Welsh Language Champion, Cllr Delme Harries said: “I am incredibly excited that this iconic celebration of Welsh culture is coming back to our county for the first time since 2002. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase everything that makes Pembrokeshire so special to the rest of Wales and beyond.

“I would like to pay tribute to all those who have worked tirelessly to make this event possible, including the many dedicated individuals involved in local committees across Pembrokeshire, South Ceredigion, and West Carmarthenshire. Their commitment and community spirit have been truly inspiring.

“I very much look forward to warmly welcoming everyone to Llantood this August for what promises to be a memorable and vibrant Eisteddfod.”

Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Welsh Language, Cllr Alistair Cameron, echoed the welcome to the upcoming Eisteddfod.

He added: “The collaboration across Bro’ Garreg Las is a fantastic way to join communities together in the run up to this summer’s event.

“I would like to add my thanks to everyone who is working so hard to make this Eisteddfod so special to celebrate our Welsh language and culture.”

Betsan Moses, Chief Executive of the Eisteddfod, added: “Bringing together community, heritage and contemporary performance, Carreg Filltir Las: The Lord Rhys Journey promises to be a powerful celebration of the National Eisteddfod, honouring its roots while looking forward to its future.”
