According to the experts at Moneybarn, the most scenic UK road trip is the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. But anyone in Wales will tell you that there are plenty of rural road trips that offer the Jurassic Coast a run for its money, and that Wales is one of the most idyllic and beautiful countries with gorgeous coastlines, historic towns, and fields of green stretching as far as the eye can see. With more than 38% of the country made up of farmlands, it’s easy to see why a Welsh road trip is a balm for the soul. These tips and suggested routes will help you to make the most of your time behind the wheel.
    Before Hitting the Road
An important part of road tripping is making sure that you’re equipped and ready, and that you’ve selected the right vehicle for the trip. One of the most popular vehicles for a road trip is the coupe. Travelling in a coupe ensures that you drive in style and comfort. These cars are usually two-door and are perfect for a one or two-man mission. If you’re planning on seeing the Welsh farmlands and countryside by yourself and want to add a touch of luxury to your adventure, a coupe might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Once you’ve decided on your vehicle, you need to plan your route.
The Coastal Way – Aberdaron to St David’s
Rated as one of the most scenic drives in Wales by the Lonely Planet, the road that stretches across the bend of Cardigan Bay comes highly recommended. This road covers a large section of the Welsh West Coast and passes stunning secluded beaches and through charming rural seaside towns. Taking this trip will give you the chance to interact with locals who have spent generations cultivating Welsh seaside culture from Aberdaron Beach to the Llyn Peninsula. Along the way, you’ll encounter old Welsh mining villages, historic castles, and everything else that the rural Welsh West Coast has to offer.
Rocky Roads – The Black Mountain Pass
Wales is known for its incredible landscapes and mountains with valleys and passes that are simply sublime. The Black Mountain pass route encourages drivers to embrace the rural scenery and soak up the sights at their leisure. Road trippers will come across some of the finest viewing points in the country that overlook the captivating mountain scenery. Furthermore, hardened explorers will be encouraged to spend time seeking out Welsh wildlife in the mountain pass. From the Dragon Humps at Port Aber to Herbert’s Pass, this route is simply a must-see for any visitor looking for a rural road trip adventure.
    Why Rural Wales?
Travelling through the rural woodlands and coastlines of Wales has been described by many seasoned travellers as a real-life fairy tale that no other country in the world can match. A large part of Wales is rural and uninhabited with locals taking real pride in their surroundings. Rural Wales is simply a must-see for anyone wanting an out-of-the-ordinary road trip in 2022.
