A new green wall is being installed outside Swansea’s Y Storfa development, bringing a touch of nature to the heart of the city centre.
Located at the former BHS building on Oxford Street, Y Storfa is set to open later this year and will become home to a wide range of community services.
The development will house Swansea’s new central library, which is relocating from the Civic Centre. The existing library has now closed while staff prepare for the move.
Other Swansea Council services set to be based at Y Storfa include the contact centre, Housing Options, Housing Support, lifelong learning, the West Glamorgan Archive Service, and the revenue and benefits team.
In addition to council services, several partner organisations will also move into the building, including Careers Wales, Citizens Advice and Swansea University’s South Wales Miners’ Library.
The project, led by Swansea Council with Keir Group as the main contractor, is well connected to the city’s transport network, being close to major bus routes, pedestrian links, cycle paths, taxi ranks and car parks.
An official opening date for Y Storfa will be confirmed soon.
Council officials say the addition of the living green wall reflects Swansea’s ongoing commitment to creating a more attractive, sustainable and welcoming city centre.
