Health and care staff who have gone over and above the call of duty are in line for UK-wide recognition as part of the NHS’s 70th birthday celebrations.

ABMU Health Board is keen for our patients, staff and the public to get involved and nominate employees who have made an exceptional contribution to patient care, health and care services and local communities over the past 70 years. Nominations will be put to a public vote this month culminating in a shortlist of Health and Care’s Top 70 Stars.

Chief Executive for ABMU Tracy Myhill, said:

“Passionate, dedicated, caring.  Three words I use to describe our staff who are the very lifeblood of the services we provide to our patients and communities.

“This seems such a fitting way to recognise their contributions on a national scale and I’d very much encourage our patients, staff and partners to take part in this opportunity and celebrate these contributions made across our services.”

    Who can nominate/be nominated?

Anyone who has worked for the NHS and wider health and care sector over the past 70 years in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland can be nominated, whether still living or since passed.

Launched this month by the NHS Confederation, the list of the UK’s Top 70 standout staff will be revealed at the NHS Confederation’s annual conference on 13th and 14th June, just three weeks before the NHS celebrates its 70th anniversary on 5th July.

Danny Mortimer, deputy chief executive of the NHS Confederation, said:

“Since the first NHS hospital was opened in 1948, heroic staff have toiled around the clock to provide the best possible care to the population of Britain.

“Whether living or passed on, their tireless efforts to provide the best possible treatment and care to every single patient should not be forgotten.

“By recognising members of our NHS workforce through the decades, we wish to both celebrate the past and shape the future of our health and care system.”

    How to Nominate and Vote

Nominations are open until 17th May and voting runs until 29th May.
