Your views are wanted to help shape plans for the sustainable development of Swansea’s White Rock Industrial Heritage Park.
The Friends of White Rock, founded in 2013, have now made an online survey available as proposals to enhance the area as a recreational, heritage and environmental resource gather pace.
It’s part of a feasibility study on the future of the park as a heritage and leisure amenity that’s being funded by Swansea Council through the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The White Rock Industrial Heritage Park borders the east bank of the River Tawe adjacent to Pentrechwyth Road.
Located across the river from the site of the Hafod Morfa Copperworks, the White Rock was the third oldest copperworks in Swansea.
Established in 1737, the works closed in 1924.
John Ashley, of the Friends of White Rock, said: “We’re exploring options for the sustainable development of the site in future, and community feedback is important because we want to know how familiar people are with the site, how often they visit and what they visit for.
“The survey – which takes less than five minutes to fill in – will help us determine the best options for the park in future as it continues to be celebrated for heritage and recreation.
“The regeneration project is in its early stage, and further funding will be sought to deliver any potential enhancement schemes in the coming years.”
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Investment and Tourism, said: “Swansea has a proud industrial heritage, so it’s important to preserve our past for the benefit of people now and generations to come.
“The feasibility study for the White Rock site complements all the conservation and restoration work that’s being carried out at the nearby Hafod-Morfa Copperworks site.
“Both the Palace Theatre building and the Albert Hall in the city centre have also recently reopened.”
