Heol Goch has reopened after Cardiff Council completed extensive safety checks following last week’s flooding, with temporary traffic management remaining in place while further repairs are planned.
Council teams and contractors carried out final inspections beneath the road surface to ensure the carriageway had not been made unstable by flood water caused by last Thursday’s incident.
Following the completion of those tests, the road has now reopened with one lane, closest to the section of the bank damaged by the flooding, coned off.
Traffic is being managed using temporary two way traffic lights, allowing vehicles, including buses, full access to and from Pentyrch via Heol Goch. Heavy goods vehicles are not permitted to use the route.
Cardiff Council said further work is still required to repair the section of road closest to the damaged bank. This will require a short closure of Heol Goch, which will take place during the evening and overnight. Details of those closures will be confirmed once arrangements have been finalised.
The temporary traffic lights will remain in place while the damaged riverbank continues to be monitored.
The council has also warned that additional road closures will be needed over the coming months to prepare the road surface and sections of the carriageway ahead of the winter period. Advance notice of those closures will be provided before the works begin.
Cardiff Council thanked residents for their patience while the safety checks and recovery work were carried out, saying that public safety remained its top priority.
