How to Manage Stress in 2023

Whenever you face a stressful situation or feel uncomfortable and scared, your body releases many hormones which temporarily boost all of its functions to keep you alert and “safe”. This reaction is normal and is called the ‘fight-flight-and-freeze’ response.

While stress is a healthy body reaction that can be helpful, chronic stress or too many emotions over a period can make it harder for you to live a happy life. Stress can cause many health issues, like poor sleep and excessive eating, leading to mental health problems and even severe health conditions.

Today’s world is highly stressful, but there are also many simple yet effective ways to cope with stress and manage your emotions. Let’s explore them.

    Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a trend in the 21st century. This practice means paying attention to the present moment and exploring your emotions without judgment. It also involves paying attention to what is around you, making you aware of your thoughts and feelings without being overwhelmed by them. During this practice, you become an explorer watching your emotions inside your body and outside. This allows you to stay calm in stressful situations and manage stress wisely.

    Develop New Habits

Learning something new and investing your time in habit development can greatly help you switch your focus and improve your memory capacity. Trying something new helps us stay more productive, energised, confident and satisfied with life – reducing common reasons for stress. For example, use Headway to read more and get recommendations based on your preferences. Reading also helps reduce stress.

    Get Enough Sleep

A healthy sleep regimen is one of the best ways to keep your emotions under control. Lack of sleep not only makes us tense and causes stress but leads to health issues. Adults should have at least 7-8 hours of sleep every day, while people having intensive exercises during the day require over 9 hours of sleep.

    Exercise Regularly

It is a popular fact that exercising allows us to stay happier and healthier in general. However, physical activity also allows us to cope with stress since it releases our happy hormones. It doesn’t mean that you need to work out every day, yet aim to have at least 30 minutes of any kind of exercise per day. Whether it be yoga, a swimming pool or a gym, 30 minutes daily is enough to keep your mind healthy and calm.

    Take Breaks

Stressing yourself out with racing thoughts and anxiety won’t bring any results. We always try to do everything that is possible to finish work on time or be able to manage our personal life with a large volume of working tasks. But taking breaks greatly helps to reduce tension and promote overall wellness. Take breaks that involve your favourite activities, so your mind and body can rest and calm down before the working week.
