Get involved in the 2026 Cardiff Half Marathon without needing to run by offering your support to go the ‘extra mile’ on race day.
Volunteering opportunities for this year’s Cardiff Half Marathon open on 16th August and there are a wide range of roles available for all skillsets.
Known as the ‘Extra Milers’ the volunteer team are crucial in making race day happen. Whether it’s taking your bag in the bag drop, making sure runners stay hydrated by handing out water at the water stations, marshalling around the course to achieve a PB or celebrating with them on the finish line by presenting them with their medals and t-shirts, the volunteers are the beating heart of race day.
This year’s event takes place on Sunday 4 October and volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved in the race day atmosphere without needing to run the 13.1-mile distance. There are also a range of roles available to help out with Cardiff Half Junior on Saturday 3  October too.
Groups and individuals are now being encouraged to join the friendly volunteer team, making the city come alive and showcasing why Cardiff is one of the most welcoming places there is.
Sophie Turner, Volunteer Manager at Run 4 Wales, said: “Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do and play a huge role in creating the incredible atmosphere that makes the Cardiff Half Marathon so special.
“We’re looking for individuals, community groups and businesses to join our team of Extra Milers and be part of one of Wales’ biggest sporting events. Whether it’s your first time volunteering or you’ve supported us before, we’d love to welcome you.
“You don’t need any previous experience – just plenty of enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people, develop new skills, give something back to the community and experience race day from a completely different perspective.
“Our events simply couldn’t happen without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers. Their encouragement and support mean so much to every runner crossing the start and finish lines, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who gives their time to help make the event such a memorable day.”
