Ford’s latest electric SUV, the Explorer, marks a new chapter in the brand’s EV journey — and it’s a bold one. Built on the same platform as the Volkswagen ID.4, the Explorer blends German engineering with Ford’s familiar family-friendly practicality.
Available in Select and Premium trims, with rear- or all-wheel drive and two battery options, the range-topping Premium AWD model we tested came in at £57,135 including options like a panoramic sunroof, head-up display and a heat pump for better efficiency.
On the road, the Explorer is smooth, quick off the line (0–62mph in 5.3 seconds), and packed with tech. Inside, you get a massive 14.6-inch touchscreen, supportive seats, great visibility and plenty of storage — ideal for family life. Downsides? The ride can be firm on UK roads and the price may give some buyers pause, especially compared to rivals.
But is it a serious contender in the electric SUV space, or just Ford playing catch-up?
