Hazlewoods, a leading accountancy and business advisory firm, will see ten of its Cardiff staff run the city’s half marathon to raise vital funds for children’s hospice Tŷ Hafan.
The ten runners will join thousands of participants at the Cardiff Half Marathon this Sunday 5 October. As part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to giving back, Hazlewoods has chosen to support Tŷ Hafan, a local charity providing palliative care for children with life-limiting conditions in Wales. By taking part in the race, Hazlewoods aims to raise crucial funds for Tŷ Hafan’s important work and has already raised £1,000 ahead of Sunday’s race.
While the team comprises some experienced runners, others are using the event as an opportunity to improve their fitness and reconnect with the sport. In preparation, they have met every Thursday for social runs, are following a group training plan and have agreed to prioritise support over speed by running at the pace of the slowest member. These sessions have become a highlight of the week, boosting motivation and strengthening team spirit.
Since opening its Cardiff office in Capital Tower last year, Hazlewoods has been actively building its profile in south Wales. The Cardiff Half offers the perfect opportunity to improve brand awareness, encourage staff wellbeing, and champion a fantastic charity all at once.
Taking on the challenge, Matthew Cox, Manager at Hazlewoods, said: “Running the Cardiff Half is a team effort. It’s not just about crossing the finish line, but doing it for a cause we all really believe in.
“Tŷ Hafan does such incredible work for children and their families, and if as well as raising money, our branded tops can help build their profile, that’s a real bonus. Training together every week has brought us closer as a team, and we’re all really excited for race day.”
James Davies-Hale, Head of Fundraising for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice, said: “No parent ever imagines that their child will die before them, but this is the unthinkable reality that thousands of families in Wales face every day.
“Tŷ Hafan can’t stop this from happening, but thanks to everyone at Hazelwoods who is running the Cardiff Half Marathon for us, and indeed to all our Cardiff Half runners this weekend, we can make sure that no family lives their child’s short life alone.”
One of the largest independent accountants and business advisers in the South West, Hazlewoods has over 600 employees principally based in Cheltenham, along with a growing presence in Cardiff and Bristol. The firm specialises in accounting and advisory services for both corporate and private clients and is particularly well-known for its specialist sectors across the UK.
