Local and award-winning housebuilder, St. Modwen Homes, has offered a helping hand by donating a generous £8,000 to Llamau charity – an organisation that aims to prevent homelessness for young people and vulnerable women in Wales.
Llamau supports young people and women who are experiencing homelessness by supplying homely, communal accommodation. Set up to promote independent living, socialising, and the development of life skills, these spaces are completely subsidised by the charity, which relies on donations to fund its important work.
St. Modwen Homes’ donation will be utilised to renovate two of the local supported accommodation’s garden spaces, which are located less than 5 miles from St. Modwen Homes’ Newport developments, Glan Llyn and Stillwater at Glan Llyn.
After contacting the charity, it was recognised that the garden spaces at these properties had become run down and unusable for those who were living there. The housebuilders’ donation will help to improve these gardens, encouraging those who live in the accommodation, and future residents, to enjoy an open green space in a place where they feel safe and secure for years to come.
Alongside supporting vulnerable people in the Newport area, these newly refurbished gardens will also help to promote biodiversity – creating a space that can be enjoyed by residents whilst being kind to the environment.

Non Davies, Contracts and Quality Assurance Manager for Gwent, commented: “Having a usable outdoor space is invaluable for our homeless young people, providing a place to relax and socialise. It is also a great area for staff to be able to put on additional activities, including gardening, BBQs and games. Having such a space will hugely increase involvement and engagement levels and make a significant improvement to project life.”
