Local community gets ready for the Ogi Porthcawl 10K

The residents and businesses of Porthcawl have been gearing up for the return of the Ogi Porthcawl 10K, which will bring a festival of running to the seaside town this weekend.

Set to be Wales’ largest summer running event, there are lots of exciting activities to look forward to, including a number of exciting activations planned by new headline sponsor Ogi – who have been busy rolling out a brand-new full-fibre broadband network in the area.

Anticipation in the community is high, with over 4,000 people registered to take part in the 10K or one of the supporting Ogi Jogi Junior races this Sunday, 2 July.

Local businesses and residents have been getting involved in the final preparations and were on hand to help event organisers Run 4 Wales (R4W) reveal the design of the official race t-shirt at a series of photoshoots in locations around the town.

The design of the Ogi branded red t-shirts are a nod to Porthcawl’s reputation as one of Wales’ most popular destinations for surfing and will be available to the thousands of runners who complete the 10K race next Sunday.

Local people from businesses including Ogi, Fablas Ice Cream, Stokes Greengrocers, the Fishmonger’s Cat, AJ Guttridge The Florist, the RNLI and the Hi-Tide Inn lent a hand in supporting the reveal of the design. Runners gearing up to fundraise for Lead Charity Prostate Cymru also got involved. There will be a large team of people running the 10K to ‘save the males in Wales’ and raise money for support services, training, research and more.

Ogi’s Head of Brand and Engagement, Sarah Vining, said: “This exciting partnership allows us to grow our profile across south Wales, forging relations with businesses and residents who need ultrafast connectivity to thrive. We’re proudly Welsh and we always aim to ensure that community is at the heart of everything we do”.

R4W Race Director and Olympian, Steve Brace said: “Being local to the area and involved with nearby running groups and the Porthcawl parkrun, the Ogi Porthcawl 10K is always my favourite day of the year.

“It’s brilliant to see how much the local community has embraced the event and all the benefits it brings to the local area. We’re expecting plenty of overnight tourists and day visitors to attend and I expect all the shops, bars, restaurants, and cafes will be filled with runners on Sunday afternoon!

“We’re delighted to have the support of Ogi as headline sponsor this year. Their support is vital and it’s great to be working with a company that values the importance of community”

Registration for the race is now closed, but you can still come along and soak up the atmosphere by getting involved as a spectator or volunteer.
