Road users in Newport are being warned of disruption next month as resurfacing works are carried out on key sections of Malpas Road.
Newport City Council has confirmed it will begin improvements in May, with works taking place across multiple dates and locations along the busy route.
Overnight closures will be in place on the southbound carriageway between Pillmawr Road north junction and Llanover Close on May 5, 6, 7 and 11. The road will be closed from 8pm each evening until 5am the following morning.
Residents in the area will receive letters outlining access arrangements, and motorists are being urged not to park along this stretch during the works, with vehicles left at risk of damage due to the nature of resurfacing activity.
Further work will take place between the Harlequin roundabout and the M4 junction 26 roundabout across two weekends. Closures will be in place from 8pm on Friday May 8 until 5am on Monday May 11, and again from 8pm on Friday May 15 until 5am on Monday May 18.
During this time, the road will be closed to all through traffic, although pedestrian access will remain available throughout.
Vehicle access to Goodrich Crescent, Walford Street and the Brynglas area will be maintained via the Harlequin roundabout, with a temporary one-way system in place on Walford Street and Goodrich Crescent.
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, and drivers are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.
Bus services operating along Malpas Road will also be affected, with passengers encouraged to check with their operator for the latest updates.
A council spokesperson acknowledged the disruption, saying the scale of the work and necessary closures would cause inconvenience, but thanked residents and visitors for their patience while the improvements are carried out.
