Margam Country Park has made it into the UK’s prestigious top ten parks and green spaces list following a public vote.

To celebrate the fantastic Green Flag awarded parks and green spaces across the UK, the public voted for their favourite award-winning Green Flag site in the People’s Choice Awards 2022.

The Green Flag Award is the international quality standard for parks and green spaces.

During October, the public were invited to vote for one of their most loved 2,208 Green Flag awarded parks or green spaces and among the nation’s top ten is Margam Country Park in Neath Port Talbot.

Cllr Jeremy Hurley, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and well-being, said: “We’re proud to receive this well-deserved accolade for Margam Country Park. The park is such an important landmark both for our local residents and visitors and this award shows just how much people value it.

Well done to all members of staff who work hard to make the park the success that it is, and for ensuring its continued high standards and provision of quality green spaces!”

Joining Margam Park in the People’s Choice ten most popular parks and green space are:
    •    Cassiobury Park, Watford Borough Council
    •    Margam Park, Neath Port Talbot County Borough
    •    Oxhey Activity Park, Watford Borough Council
    •    Oxhey Park, Watford Borough Council
    •    Strathaven Park, South Lanarkshire Council
    •    University of Essex Wivenhoe Park, University of Essex
    •    Valentines Park, Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure Ltd
    •    Victoria Park (Tower Hamlets), London Borough of Tower Hamlets
    •    Warley Woods, Warley Woods Community Trust
    •    Wollaton Park, Nottingham City Council

Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator at Keep Wales Tidy said: “A huge congratulations to Margam Country Park and all the other worthy winners across the UK. With a record-breaking 2,208 parks and green spaces receiving the prestigious Green Flag Award and Green Flag Community Award in the UK this year, being voted one of the nation’s favourites is such an achievement. It’s great to celebrate all the hard work of parks staff and volunteers up and down the country.”

The Green Flag Award programme is delivered in Wales by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, with support from Welsh Government.
