Matalan has confirmed that its Newport clearance store will close later this month, with a closing down sale now underway.

The retailer’s outlet on Seven Stiles Avenue will shut its doors for the final time on Saturday 24 October 2026, bringing an end to what the store described as “many wonderful years” of trading.

The announcement was made on the Matalan Clearance Newport Facebook page, where the team shared the news with customers.

In the post, Matalan Clearance Newport said: “After many wonderful years, we’re incredibly sad to share that our store will close its doors for the final time on Saturday 24th October 2026.”

A closing down sale began at 9am on Thursday 8 October, offering shoppers 30% off everything in store until the final day of trading.

The store, located at 7 Seven Stiles Avenue, Newport, NP19 4, is currently the only Matalan branch listed in the city on the retailer’s official website.

Staff have warned that the final weeks of trading are likely to be particularly busy, with customers encouraged to plan their visits accordingly.

The Facebook post said: “We expect the coming weeks to be very busy, so if you’re planning to visit, we recommend arriving early where possible.”

The store also thanked its customers and colleagues for their support over the years, while asking shoppers to be considerate towards employees during the closure period.

It added: “We also kindly ask everyone visiting us to show patience, kindness and respect towards our amazing store colleagues during this difficult and emotional time.”

According to Matalan’s website, the Newport clearance store normally opens from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 11am to 5pm on Sundays.

Following the closure, customers will still be able to visit nearby Matalan stores, including branches at 1 Llywelyn Road in Cwmbran, 383-384 Newport Road in Cardiff, and Queen Street in Cardiff city centre.

Matalan has not published a separate corporate statement on its website regarding the Newport closure.

The retailer has not disclosed how many employees will be affected or given a reason for the decision to close the store.
