Minor Injury Unit reopens at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon

The Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon (YCC) will resume its service on Monday, November 7, 2022.   The ‘walk-in’ unit will open from 9am-5pm (last appointment 4.30pm), so no appointments are necessary and will treat all minor injuries.

Neil Cooper, acute services general manager, said: “This is fantastic news, not just for all the staff involved in the project to re-open MIU services, but especially for our local population. Not only will this provide a service in the heart of the Cynon Valley but it will help take some of the demand away from a very busy Emergency Department at Prince Charles Hospital.”

The Unit will continue to house the fracture clinic as feedback from patients on this service being moved from Prince Charles Hospital has been very positive. The unit will also be able to offer a service to children (over the age of one) which we were not able to provide previously.  This will hopefully be of huge benefit to our local community. The children’s area will be a separate waiting area within the facility.

Nilufa Hossain, emergency department consultant and clinical lead for MIU services, said: “We are looking forward to returning to YCC to provide this valuable service to the community.  We appreciate the patience of the local population whilst this important work has been carried out.”
