Motorists and visitors heading into Cardiff city centre on Saturday, May 16, are being warned about road closures and travel disruption around Principality Stadium.

A partial road closure will be in place around the stadium from 11am until 7.30pm to help manage crowds and ensure people can safely enter and leave the venue.

Ticket holders attending the event are also being advised to expect enhanced security checks on entry. Visitors are strongly encouraged to avoid bringing large bags and to check the prohibited items list before travelling.

The following roads will be closed from 11am until 7.30pm:

    • Westgate Street
    • Quay Street
    • Guildhall Place
    • Golate
    • Wharton Street
    • Womanby Street
    • Wood Street from Fitzhammon Embankment through to St Mary Street junction at Mill Lane
    • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road, including Despenser Gardens, Scott Road, Havelock Street and Park Street

Castle Street, Cowbridge Road West, Duke Street and Kingsway will remain open, although temporary traffic lights will operate at the Hilton Hotel junction to allow buses through.

Station Terrace will also close for a short period following the event, expected to end at around 6.15pm, to help manage crowds safely around Queen Street Station.

Drivers travelling into Cardiff are being encouraged to use the event day parking facilities at the Civic Centre and Sophia Gardens.

    Event parking details include:

    Civic Centre Parking

    • Open from 8am until midnight
    • £20 for cars
    • £30 for coaches
    • Accessible via Junction 32 of the M4 and the A470

    Sophia Gardens Parking

    • Open from 8am until midnight
    • £20 for cars
    • £30 for coaches

Visitors should note that Sophia Gardens will only be staffed until 7pm and vehicles left after closing may face fines.

Bus services across the city centre will also be diverted during the road closures, with passengers advised to check directly with operators including Stagecoach, Cardiff Bus and Adventure Travel before travelling.

National Express services will continue to operate from Sophia Gardens as normal.

Cyclists will still be able to use cycleways and pop-up cycle routes within the closure area, although riders are being urged to take extra care due to increased pedestrian numbers.

City centre car parks including St David’s Shopping Centre, John Lewis, Capitol Shopping Centre and several NCP sites will also remain available throughout the day.

Disabled drivers are being advised to use Sophia Gardens, while the St Mary Street taxi rank will close at 11am before reopening at 7.30pm.
