Motorists are being advised to plan ahead this Sunday as thousands of runners take part in the Mizuno Swansea Half Marathon.

Around 8,000 participants are expected to take to the streets of Swansea on Sunday, June 7, with temporary rolling road closures and traffic restrictions being put in place throughout the day to ensure the safety of runners and spectators.

Swansea Council has issued a reminder that the main impact on traffic will be along Oystermouth Road, between Sainsbury’s and Mumbles, where restrictions will be in force between 8am and 3pm.

Drivers are being encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and use alternative routes where possible.

Access to Swansea Marina will remain available via Glamorgan Street and Argyle Street during the event.

The annual half marathon attracts thousands of runners from across Wales and beyond, with participants taking on the 13.1-mile course through Swansea’s city centre and coastal routes.

Swansea Council said: “This Sunday (7 June), 8,000 runners will take to Swansea’s streets for the Mizuno Swansea Half Marathon.

“To keep everyone safe and make it a great day for all, there’ll be temporary rolling road closures and restrictions.

“The main impact is on Oystermouth Road (Sainsbury’s to Mumbles), with restrictions between 8am and 3pm. Please allow extra time or use alternative routes where possible.”

Residents are encouraged to check the latest travel and event information before setting out on Sunday.

The Mizuno Swansea Half Marathon has become one of Wales’ most popular road running events, attracting runners of all abilities while bringing thousands of visitors into the city.
